A collection of thoughts on prana and living with ALS.

by Dr. Scott Stieber

I’ve created this space to share my story—not just of illness, but of resilience, gratitude, and transformation. My hope is that it offers insight, comfort, and inspiration to others facing ALS and reminds us all that even in the face of adversity, there is still so much life to live.

A Life of Purpose

Welcome to my website. My name is Scott F. Stieber M.D. My friends call me Dr. Scott. I am a retired Cardiac Anesthesiologist disabled by Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease or, most commonly, ALS. This website has been a long time in coming and is only made possible by the support of my loving family and the encouragement and assistance of many friends. I am so very grateful.

A little about me.

I WAS DIAGNOSED IN OCTOBER OF 2011.

Looking back, I was experiencing symptoms in late 2010, but chose to ignore them. I was fortunate to have the slower progressing limb-onset version of the disease which gave me time. I was in the confusing grip of this powerful disease until, in the rehabilitation process of a hip fracture suffered in a fall, I discovered yoga. The first of many unexpected blessings my ALS would bring to me.

Choosing Life, Every Day

This website is about my journey with ALS. Like life, it has had its ups and downs but, through my yoga practice and the meditation it brings, I have been given access to peace, presence, and purpose in each day. I have found a way to live with the disease. I greet each day with possibility. I am living, not dying, with ALS. My sincere wish is that my journey is an inspiration to others diagnosed with this cruel disease that there is life after diagnosis.
